There are four phases in Adlerian therapy that we’ll use to guide the work:
Engagement. Once we start working together, we’ll talk about what your life is like now and what you want to get out of counselling. Some clients have a lot to say that they haven’t said before, so we’ll make time for that.
Assessment. We’ll delve deeper into your back story – how you see yourself, others and the world. What experiences, especially from childhood, have led you to where you are now.
Insight. We’ll work together on creating insights from this work. Some insights are powerful enough that things are different from that moment on.
Reorientation. Other insights need the addition of action to create change for you. I’ll support and encourage you through this part of the process. It takes courage and I’m firmly in your corner. (And we’re not aiming to be perfect.)
We’ll adapt the pace of this deeper insight and change-focused work. If you need time to process something that’s going on now, we’ll prioritise that.
We’ll move forward with self-compassion and courage to experiment with different ways of being.
